The biggest issue I have with those I attempt to assist, motivate, mentor, educate and train in my workshops is simply for them to take consistent action.  It seems as if once they leave the developmental workshop, read the article, or exit our conversation they are highly motivated.  Then absolutely nothing happens consistently.  Forgive me, they might take a baby step, then they stop cold and never move forward on their action or goal.

On a personal level, I was hesitate to talk about this subject, because I also have the same bad personal habits and behaviors.  I just had twenty one days in a row that I could eat right, exercise, lose weight and get healthier.  On day one I rode my bike to the beach for exercise. Day two I walked for 45 minutes. Day three through twenty one, I eat wrong, stopped exercising, drank adult beverages every night, after five of course. So who am I, to get on my soap box and scream words of wisdom about staying consistent.  All I ask is for you to forgive me for some of my personal life choices and rate me on my business behaviors.

From a business stand point, well I am really focused.  Part of it is me and the other part is I have many folks who are dependent on my ability to make it rain businesswise.  Every year about this same time, I have an emotional meltdown that my business world is coming to an abrupt end. I channel the fear, do the right things, make the right calls. The result is that faster than a speeding bullet, my business gets so good I have to turn people down.  Every year the same thing for 25 years.  This fear of failure is a very important part of my daily motivational routine.  The fear drives me and does not cripple me.  I have no idea why I don’t just give up, but I do know that if and when I get afraid that I will have no business, crazy good things happen.  Ever felt that way?

I have a friend named Dr. Jerry Jellison.  His expertise is Change Management.  He wrote the book the “J-Curve”.  I have talked to him about this yearly emotional pain I put myself through.  He tells me it is not uncommon, but it is more common that folks just give up.  I asked him why?  He said it is easier to give up then to press forward.  People tend to take the path of least resistance.  So PLEASE consider pressing forward on whatever it is you want to accomplish.  You might be afraid or depressed right now.  All that is forgotten when you start, make progress and successfully end your journey.  Good luck and embrace the fear.
